NSW Toll Rebate for Large Trailers: Fairer Tolls for Cub Campers Owners

NSW Toll Rebate for Large Trailers: Fairer Tolls for Cub Campers Owners

Towing your camper or caravan through Sydney’s toll roads just got a little fairer.

The NSW Government’s Large Towed Recreational Vehicle Toll Rebate is designed to stop travellers in larger recreational setups being charged truck-level tolls. If your rig is big enough to be classified as Class B on certain toll roads, the rebate helps bring your costs back in line with standard car tolls.

Here’s how it works, why it matters, and how it connects with the Cub range.

What Is the Large Towed Recreational Vehicle Toll Rebate?

When you tow a larger caravan, camper trailer or similar, your combined vehicle can sometimes be detected as a Class B vehicle (like a heavy vehicle), which attracts higher tolls than a Class A passenger vehicle.

Under the rebate scheme, eligible drivers can claim back the difference between the Class B and Class A toll on qualifying trips. In other words, if your holiday setup is being treated like a truck at the toll gantry, this rebate is designed to correct that.

Who Can Claim? (Quick Overview)

For full and current criteria, travellers should always check the official NSW Government and Service NSW websites. But in simple terms, the rebate is targeted at:

  • NSW residents

  • Using a NSW-registered tow vehicle and NSW-registered recreational trailer (camper, caravan, boat trailer, horse float), for private, pensioner or charitable use

  • A towing combination that:

    • is over 12.5m in length, or

    • over 2.8m in height,
and is charged as Class B on eligible Sydney toll roads

  • Tolls paid via a NSW toll account and claimed within the required timeframe

  • Not applicable to motorhomes and subject to monthly caps and scheme rules

What This Means for Cub Campers Customers

1. Most Cub Setups Stay on Standard (Class A) Tolls

Cub campers are engineered to be light, compact and easy to tow, which means many popular Cub setups remain within Class A dimensions.

That includes combinations with:

For many owners towing these models with a typical 4WD or SUV, you’ll generally continue to pay standard car tolls, with no need to claim a rebate.

2. Bigger Hybrid Caravans & Longer Rigs Benefit Most

For travellers stepping into larger setups—particularly our hybrid caravan range—this rebate becomes more relevant.

If your tow vehicle plus one of our hybrids is long or tall enough to be detected as Class B, you may be eligible to claim the rebate on qualifying trips:

For these larger touring rigs, the scheme:

  • Helps avoid paying truck-like tolls for a family holiday setup

  • Supports travellers who choose safer, faster toll routes in and around Sydney

  • Makes extended touring with a larger Cub more cost-manageable over time
